![]() Well on Christmas Eve, instead of doing some last minute shopping in Greenwich, I did an about turn, got my trusty boots and instead made my way down to one of our favourite mudlarking areas - where I often find some lovely glass for my fish, as well as some interesting finds left in the mud by the tide. I was not disappointed. I found a beautiful old victorian police whistle. other finds included 3 world war 2 bullets and an old brass military button. It is unfortunate that then on Christmas day I was struck down by flu! I am only now recovering and hope to make some fish in the studio today. I cannot remember the last time I felt so ill! Out of 365 days of the year, it just had to be Christmas Day that I felt the worst! However, it seems to be on the way out now, and so I hope to be back to normal soon.

![]() I've just had an extremely enjoyable long weekend off work, during which time, my boyfriend David and I have been mudlarking on the Thames foreshore at low tide, searching for treasures from the past, as well as pieces of old glass and pottery, and clay pipe stems to add to the piles in the studio at home. We had a pretty good day, with, amongst other finds, a very old medieval lead trading token, a Georgian shilling, and some old cartridges. Then back home to start working on a new collection of sea glass fish (or thames bottlefish as I like to call them - see one below). These fish are great fun to make as you never quite know how they are going to turn out. The glass used is often over 100 years old, and has worn down nicely in the tides of the Thames. So, whilst I was working on my fish, David has been fine tuning my website and so hence my first blog - which I will endeavour to update regularly! |
