"If only we wasn't in this and maybe things would be different"
Im sure we can all identify with that!!

I will start with the letter which Grace and I received from Jessica, the little girl in Germany whose bottle we found nestled in amongst the stones at the Thames Barrier a few weeks ago. We wrote to Jessica and at the beginning of November we received a reply from her. She says that she had almost forgotten about her bottle, but amazingly, her parents had taken a picture of her throwing the bottle in to the Thames all those months before, from Tower Bridge in London! It's lovely to meet new friends, especially through such extraordinary circumstances! Grace now has a new penfriend :) Ok,I'll be honest... I had high hopes for this next message which we found today at our favourite spot along the Thames.... a place which just seems to collect hundreds of plastic bottles. The last extremely high tide which we had, gave all the regular bottles a good shuffle, and so some that had been languishing at the bottom of the pile, came to the surface. This bottle didn't only contain several pieces of paper, it also contained a packet of coffee, a lip balm and a small piece of paper, the contents of which we would discover on opening it... What was incredibly disappointing, was the fact that the writing (which was in biro - incidentally, if you are ever going to do your very own message in a bottle, don't do it in biro - do it in pencil, as biro/ink fades over time) had faded and was barely readable. The advantage of this was, that, ok it probably was an advantage, as the beginning of the letter clearly said "Dear F*** Head". And so perhaps I didn't need to read the rest. The only other legible words were "stoned" and "21 March 2011". So, yes, you guessed it, the weird looking stuff is obviously smokable, and who knows why they added the lipsalve and coffee. Still, a message in a bottle is a message in a bottle, and even if incomprehensible, it's exciting to find. Our last message that I will leave you with today is short, sweet and slightly puzzingly if a little philosophical. I'm sure that we have ALL felt a little bit the same as this person did. So whoever you are, thank you for voicing your feelings, popping them in a bottle and throwing them in a river. Maybe it was your way of letting go of the outcome of whatever your situation is!! Just in case you can't read it:- "If only we wasn't in this and maybe things would be different" Im sure we can all identify with that!! Bye for now - till the next bottle mail arrives. X

Hi Kate, you are absolutely right, and rereading it, it makes a lot more sense. I've changed my interpretation of it! Thanks for pointing that out. Glad you are enjoying reading the blog! Nicola
